Performance measures allow policy makers, managers, and citizens to evaluate the quality and effectiveness of government services. This tool enables local governments to set goals and standards, detect and correct problems, document accomplishments as well as manage and improve processes. The use of performance measures in local government is driven by increased citizen demand for government accountability and by local elected officials that want performance related information to assist in program evaluation and resource allocation decisions.

At the one day workshop participants will learn:

·         How to engage citizens in the process;

·         How to design and use community surveys; and
